Northwich Primary Care Network: Provision of our services outside the normal practice hours.
As you may be aware the NHS England (who commission our practices services) have set out a requirement that practices work together to ensure that patients are able to access services outside our normal hours of work (8.00am to 6.30pm Monday to Friday).
Northwich PCN (Primary Care Network) covers the following practices:
Danebridge Medical Centre
Firdale Medical Centre
Middlewich Road Surgery
Oakwood Medical Centre
Weaverham Medical Centre
Witton Street Surgery
Watling Street Medical Practice
Northwich PCN has produced a plan based on services being provided from the individual practices and from a local practice-based Hub on Friday and Saturday.
This way of working is not new to us, we have been providing so called Extended Access services for the last five years, including the ability for our patients to access services locally on Saturdays.
The times we provide extended access services from our practice bases have been determined by analysing the preferences of our patients over the last five years, in particular we have been keen to offer services to enable patients who work a distance away from the practice to access services.
Each practice is currently publicising when services are available and we are proposing to add further services to our existing provision, from October 2022.
In addition to the services provided from each practice we are working with our neighbouring practices to offer appointments across the week and on Saturdays. As always, the availability of appointments will be dependent on our capacity, however, please ask the practice receptionist if you would ideally like an appointment outside the normal core hours. It is important to stress that the number of appointments offered outside the normal hours will only be a small proportion of our total appointments, as it is important that we do not undermine our normal level of service particularly given the current high levels of demand and our workforce challenges.
As we have stated we are sure that the time our practices provide services (outside of core hours) reflects the preferences of our patients, but we would be pleased to hear your views so that we can continue to evaluate the best times to offer services.
We are delighted to be able to welcome Anna Daws and Colette Webster as Advanced Nurse Practitioners to our expanding clinical team at Danebridge.
Working alongside our GPs, Advanced Nurse Practitioners are Registered Nurses who have undertaken additional training and academic qualifications to be able to examine, assess, make diagnoses, treat, prescribe and make referrals for patients who present with undiagnosed / undifferentiated problems.
As Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Anna and Colette’s role includes first contact consultations, which includes, but is not limited to: health matters that the patient feels has to be seen today such as acute illnesses like coughs, colds, sore throats, minor injuries, aches/pains.
From April 1st, the Phlebotomy Service at Northwich Victoria Infirmary / Leighton Hospital changed their booking procedure for blood test appointments. There is no walk in service available.
We also offer a phlebotomy service at Danebridge 8.30am – 1pm Monday – Friday, please ring the practice to book your appointment.
To book with Northwich Victoria infirmary/Leighton hospital you will no longer be able to book via telephone. There is now a new online system which will allow patients to easily book an appointment at their preferred location (link below for convenience)

It is with deep sadness that we advise that Dr Fiona McGregor-Smith will be retiring from the Practice on 8th January 2022.
Over the last few years, Dr McGregor-Smith has worked two and half days per week for the Practice and a day for Cheshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), helping to shape the way in which we serve our communities.
Dr McGregor-Smith joined Danebridge in July 1991 as a Partner. Dr McGregor-Smith said: “In early January 2022 I will hang up my stethoscope and will leave Danebridge, where I have been privileged to be a Partner for more than thirty years. I wish to thank everyone for their kind wishes, cards and gifts. I truly have been overwhelmed!”
“I, along with all of the Partnership, am delighted that Dr Mike Mullin will become the new Executive Partner; we have been working together over the last year to ensure a seamless transition.”
Dr Mike Mullin
